After July 12, 2022, USDA organic certification by a USDA-accredited certifier will be required to import organic products from India to the United States. APEDA-accredited certifiers may apply to NOP for direct accreditation to the USDA organic program at any time.

European Union

The European Union commonly referred to as the EU is one of the most demanding regulatory systems for agricultural biologicals. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is involved in evaluating the risks and benefits of biocontrol agents and other biological control agents. The approval and marketing of plant protection products, including those biologically based are regulated under Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009.

The EU regulations do not depart from the most important element of the regulatory system, which is stewardship of the environment and sustainable farming practices. The “PM Programme for Restoration, Awareness, Nourishment, and Amelioration of Mother Earth (PM-PRANAM)” is launched to encourage the States and Union Territories to use efficient substitutes like organic and biofertilizers to enhance the health and fertility of the soil and sustainable yield.

In the program, the state governments shall be rewarded with 50% of the saved fertilizer subsidy for encouraging organic as well as natural farming and organic fertilizers.
